Louis-François Cartier was the founder of the luxury brand of jewelry and watches in Paris in 1847. In his early adulthood, Cartier worked for a watchmaker named Adolphe Picard. Years later, he bought the store from Picard and changed the business to make it his own. Louis-François expanded to add finer jewelry to his collection. Eventually, Louis-François' son, Alfred developed the prestigious name that Cartier is known for today. During the mid 1900's, Cartier expanded their business globally. Today, there are 200 Cartier stores in 125 different countries.
